We all have been there companies will advertise different items on tv and online and when you buy the product you don’t really get what you expect. Prime example….have you ever seen a McDonalds comercial on the T.V., you know it looks great almost like a home cooked meal. I mean this comercial makes you feel hungry enough to eat a cow. So, you see this comercial and you check your purse for your charge card and you get in the car to go to McDonalds. When you get there you’re all excited thinkin I’m hungry I’m going to get a good burger. You ask the cashier do you accept credit cards? They say yes so you look at the menu see all this food that looks great at a good and you order something. They take your charge card charge you and after you pay they give you the food. So, when you open the wrapper and see your food it’s nothing like what you expect. What are you going to do now? You have bought something and got an item that was completely different than what was advertised. You say I am going to dispute this charge. Here are the steps to follow in doing so:
1. Call the company that charged you and ask for a refund - This is the most simple part of the process but it is very important. Before you ever dispute a transaction you need to make sure that the company is not willing to work with you first. Also, make sure you are polite getting hostile will not do anything for you. Give them the option to handle the problem on their own. If the corporation doesn’t work with you, there are ways around it. Just move on to step 2.
2. Call your credit card company - Once again when you are working with the lending institution make sure you are polite being rude will get you no where. Give the representative the amount and date of the transaction and explain to them that you would like to dispute the transaction. The representative are going to ask you why you would like to dispute the transaction. Tell them why, make sure that you tell the representative the truth. Lying will get you no where.
3. Complete the paperwork - Once you start a dispute with your credit card company they are going to send you some paperwork. Make sure that you complete this paperwork. If you do not you will automatically loose the dispute and will have to pay for the item. Also, once again honesty works lying gets you no where. When filling out the paper work make sure you are honest.
4. Wait for a response - Once you finish the paper work it is now in the banks hands. There is nothing you can do but sit back and wait for a response.
